Giro d´Italia: Quintana needs 4:43 against Dumoulin

Quintana vs Dumoulin
Who win?
Giro d´Italia has arrived to Bagno di Romana which was the 11th stage, where spaniard Omar Fraile (Dimension Data) won after an incredible breakaway with more than 15 riders, while Thibaut Pinot and Vicenzo Nibali were the only riders who tried to make differences between favourites.

The stage 11th was marked as transitional, due to this had after time trial a lot possibilities to breakaway and principal riders is thinking to save energies for third week, however Nibali decided to attack unsuccessfully, now that Nairo Quintana took control of situation while Pinot´s attack was controlled by Team Sunweb who shows to Maglia Rosa Leader very strong, however differences made in time trial by Tom Dumoulin are so important in special for Nairo Quintana who lost much time that he had thought and that is right, due to Nairo Quintana must reduce the 2:23 of difference, also, he has to make a significant difference around of 2:20 more as consequences that 21th stage is a time trial of 28 kilometers where Colombian rider could lost around 2:10 respect Dutch cyclist.

To reach this objective, Quintana has six stages to take advantage getting the time necessary, this is around 4:43. Among the mountain stages, we have to emphasize on 16th and 18th stages where harshness could make not easy race to Dumoulin, on contrast to Quintana due to his climber skills and these fractions can decide the Giro. The first one goes through Rovetta and Bormio about 227 km and presents 3 legendary climbs, there are Mortirolo  (1st category) , Stelvio (HC) and Umbrailpass (1st category). First climb begins at 63 kilometer and end at 88; there Movistar needs to increase the rhythm to eliminate the cyclist of Sunweb and Dumoulin begins to suffer after this Stelvio must use to distance him, from this way Quintana could be nearer of the maglia rosa. Colombian could recover around 1 minute half, if his team uses the right strategy. Also this is the largest mountain stages.

Finally the 18th stage has 5 climbs of first category between Moena and Ortisei where Quintana must to take the leadership there and increase the seconds between him and Dumoulin as much as possible in the rest of the final fractions, he almost needs 2:20 of differences before time trial. One thing is clear Quintana must take an aggressive attitude if he wants to win Giro d´Italia Century, on contrary Tom Dumoulin will be the winner of “corsa rosa” because Dutch rider is in the best performance never seen before and he has been near to win a Grand Tour, so favourite riders should not trust that this cyclist drop in overall classification easily.
